The William L. Carter Foundation was inspired by the late William L.Carter’s community service, who changed his community and the world through his persistent community service efforts. Since WLC has its roots in community service, our primary goal for 2021 post-pandemic is to help our community get back on its feet. Through reflection, during our bi-weekly zoom meetings, our students will identify the issues impacting their community, and from there, offer up a community service activity special to their community.

Inspiration Programs

The William L. Carter Inspiration Program will meet bi-weekly, on x-day, through our x-link. We will dedicate our meetings to goal setting, college preparation, and employment readiness during the month. Also, we will focus on immersing the students in a plethora of activities. Lastly, once a month, a mentor will have the spotlight and dedicated time to formal, structured meetings between mentor and student. Our schedule is as follows: Introduction, Group Workshop/Discussion, Breakout groups, and finally, a quick wrap up.

At the beginning of The WLC Mentoring Program, students will complete a survey and create a dream chart to outline their personal goals in the program and beyond. As students move through the program, they will continually assess their personal aspirations and the best path towards achieving them. Our Inspiration program assesses students’ success based on their completion of the program, recorded growth through observations, and an end of program assessment where the students will apply for their dream job, complete a mock interview, and complete a written test before being “hired.” Successful students will be placed in a cooperating community internship.

These activities are designed to create new pathways for students to achieve success and self-confidence in different situations. Additionally, many of the previously “undiscovered” activities will be in areas that may offer scholarship opportunities for students attending college/universities.

Summer Jazz Series

Due to COVID-19, we will postpone the William L. Carter Summer Jazz series until further notice. We look forward to making wonderful music with you soon!
